Relate

RELATE

Project Aims:

The Relate project aims to deliver an accessible, web based solution to help parents make changes to their family systems in regards of moving from ‘where they are now’ to ‘where they would like to be’. Ultimately, it supports and empowers people to make changes, while minimising family conflict. The SGI is involved in the evaluation of this project. The family mapping tool also guides parents to understand why they hold certain opinions, attitudes and behaviours. The solution is predominantly self-service but can also provide online interventions from a professional psychotherapist at their request.

The family mapping solution enables the parent(s) to take an ‘objective view’ of their situation, recognise where they would like to make a change and understand the impact of those changes. Further help is then available on a wide range of issues via multimedia support materials.

The parent(s) can also request an intervention with a therapist at any stage of the process. The parent(s) will be able to use the solution anonymously or in a private virtual space so they can change or create their map and use support materials on a wide range of topics, as well as getting access to the latest Relate content in video, audio, published books and the news.

The role of the SGI covers two main areas - firstly the analysis of users and their routes through the intervention, in particular regarding what can be derived from this analysis in terms of the value of supplemental material and the efficacy of the intervention. Secondly, the SGI will undertake a study of the interaction between users and the intervention, through the use of a range of techniques used to analyse and study user affect and behaviour, including eye-tracking, self-reporting, image analysis and non-invasive electroencephalography (EEG).
